City Springs Theatre Company (CSTC), the resident theatre company of the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center, is one of the fastest-growing theatre companies in the U.S. Since its inception in 2018, CSTC has served over 270,000 patrons at its mainstage productions and over 135,000 students through its education programs.

This growth is exceptional; however, it has strained the company’s resources and infrastructure. In order to ensure its continued growth and long-term sustainability, CSTC is launching an 18-month $5 million capital campaign. Funding from this campaign will be used to invest in the infrastructure that is essential to our next phase of growth by properly equipping the theatre company and enabling both immediate cost reductions and sustainable savings in our operations. In addition, funds will be used to establish an operating reserve and an endowment fund. These efforts are necessary to continue City Springs Theatre Company’s ascendance as a major regional theatre.

Remarkably, in just six years CSTC has established itself as a leading player in the performing arts and arts education scene in Sandy Springs and metro Atlanta. In a post-pandemic era when theatres all over the country have closed, CSTC has managed to thrive and establish itself as a leading regional theatre with a national reputation and influence. We were able to prosper and grow through a combination of high quality and innovative programming, judicious cost control, and strong patron and institutional support. Unlike many regional theatres, CSTC’s subscriber base has grown 15% over pre-pandemic levels, and our future is bright.

We are proud of our successes and humbled by the level of support we receive from our generous donors. However, Broadway-quality entertainment is very expensive to produce, and our entertainment programming and education programs have simply outgrown the infrastructure that was established during our start-up period. The ability to deliver our high-quality progams, support continued growth, and enjoy long-term sustainability requires increased levels of investment by both our individual and institutional donors. This capital campaign is necessary and long overdue. It will help ensure CSTC’s continued contributions to the performing arts and arts education in metro Atlanta and beyond for many years to come.

The main needs to be addressed by this campaign are:

  • Realizing substantial cost savings by owning our own equipment, sets, microphones and other production-related assets instead of continuing to rent or lease them.
  • Improving our critical infrastructure by upgrading and replacing our outdated website, ticketing system, IT systems and related assets.
  • Strengthening our staff resources, especially in the area of fundraising, in order to support future growth and sustainability.
  • Better communicating and marketing our Broadway-caliber performances to those unfamiliar with our offerings in order to increase attendance and ticket revenues.
  • Making theatre accessible by providing more student matinees, enhanced programs and equipment for our Conservatory, and more scholarships to ensure equitable access regardless of a student’s financial circumstances.
  • Ensuring long-term sustainability through an operating reserve and endowment fund.

A list that shows we anticipate that funding will be used is available further down this page.

As of the end of March 2025, we have already secured pledges for over 43% of the campaign total from individuals in Sandy Springs. We ask that you please consider joining them to support this initiative.

Together, we can ensure that City Springs Theatre Company continues to grow, remains accessible and is financially strong while creating a lasting legacy of exceptional performances and educational experiences that enrich our entire community.
